Solo Travel ... Part 8

My second day in KL was less hectic and way easier to navigate than the first. I decided to visit the famous KL Bird Park, so I walked around 20 minutes from my hotel to the train station. When I got there, they told me they don’t accept cash — only card. I was a bit stuck, but the sweetest employee offered to pay using his card, and I paid him back in cash. It was such a kind gesture and a reminder of how helpful people can be when you travel.

The train took around 20 minutes to arrive. What I really admired was that there were special cabins and entrances for women only. I loved that! The train was almost empty, super clean, smelled nice, and passed through beautiful scenery.

After I got off, I had to walk through a huge park with winding roads to reach the Bird Park. Honestly, I wish I had just taken a Grab — the walk felt long and uphill under the heat.

When I finally arrived, the entrance fee was 85 RM (around $18 USD). The moment I walked in, it felt magical. Birds of all kinds filled the park, showing off their colorful feathers. My favorites were definitely the peacocks — they roamed freely and looked majestic. The flamingos stood gracefully in the lake, barely moving, just like in the documentaries. There was also a small monkey area, which made me nervous at first, but they were actually calm and sweet. The whole place felt peaceful and was absolutely worth the visit.

After the bird park, I bought a green coconut to try. It tasted mostly like cold water — very refreshing in the heat — and they gave me a spoon to scrape the inside. The jelly-like part didn’t really have much flavor, but the experience was fun and very tropical.

Next, I ordered a Grab to take me to the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and Merdeka Square. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much to do there. You can’t enter the building, and Merdeka Square is mostly just a wide green lawn. It looked nice, but not super exciting.

From there, I walked to the River of Life, which was honestly a bit disappointing. The water was green, and I couldn’t get good pictures. But right around the corner was Chinatown, and that’s where things got interesting!

I lost myself in the insane number of shops selling cheap but surprisingly good-quality items. My advice? Bargain hard and only go for sunglasses and bags. I got some really nice bags for myself and my family at amazing prices.

My second day wasn’t as magical as the first, but that’s okay. Not every day in travel is picture-perfect — and that’s part of the adventure.

See you on my next blog! 💛
