Now that I had my destination, flight, and hotel sorted, it was time for the real fun: planning my 7 full days in Malaysia.
I started by learning more about the country itself—its culture, its cities, and of course, where I could have unforgettable experiences with great food, rich heritage, and safety as a solo traveler. I discovered that Malaysia is home to so many beautiful islands, and internal flights are surprisingly cheap!
After some research, I narrowed it down to three main cities:
-
Kuala Lumpur for the city life and iconic sights
-
Cameron Highlands for nature and tea plantations
-
Melaka for culture and history
But after reading multiple reviews on Google and TikTok, I decided to remove Cameron Highlands from the plan. It was quite far, and the transportation options seemed more complicated and time-consuming than I wanted for this trip.
So I settled on Kuala Lumpur as my main base and added a one-day trip to Melaka.
Next came the must-see places. I made a list of all the top attractions I didn’t want to miss—Petronas Towers, Batu Caves, Jalan Alor, Masjid Jamek, KL Tower, and more. Then I went to Google Maps, pinned every location, and studied the distance from my hotel and from each other. This helped me:
-
Organize each day around specific areas
-
Avoid wasting time in traffic
-
Know how long I’d need in each spot
I also made sure to:
-
Read reviews for honest feedback
-
Check opening hours
-
Confirm if any attractions were closed for renovation
-
See if there was any entry fee so I could manage my budget
This part took me 10 full days, but it was worth it.
When everything was finally clear, I created a detailed checklist of all the places I wanted to visit, what to see there, and the estimated cost. Then, I made a digital journal on my tablet, planning each day visually—so my trip would feel organized but still flexible.
It wasn’t just a trip—it was a journey I curated with intention and excitement.
